“The dark side of the human mind”: interview to Jude Natas from the “Odalisque”.
Helldone Festival takes place in various cities in Finland between Dicember 28th and Dicember 31st every year. The final evening takes place in Helsinki.
The first edition took place in 1998 by an HIM’s idea and since then sees them protagonists on stage along with other local bands and not every year (except for 2010 and 2011, the years during which the concert was suspended).
Helldone Festival brings countless HIM fans from all over the world in the Finnish capital every year.
The year 2013/2014 has seen Odalisque as one of the protagonists, a band that was formed in 2007 in Helsinki on an idea of Vivian Shockley (singer) and Jude Natas (drummer and brother of the better known Mikko “Linde” Lindstrom that we know well).
We interviewed the drummer to tell us where Odalisque come from.
Hello Jude! First of all, thank you for giving us this virtual interview. You’re the drummer of Odalisque, a band that played at the last Helldone. How was that experience?
The experience was really great!! It was hard work, but at the same time it was amazing thing!
How has been playing with your brother at the same event?
That was awesome!! Only thing that I didn’t like was the fact that all the people who really don’t know me personally were talking about me as the brother of Linde and not the drummer of Odalisque. And that’s a shame, but at the same time I really understand it… of course.
But anyway it was so nice to go and talk with Linde and all the other guys of HIM after our gigs and take some good tips and advices from them.
Let’s start from the beginning: when and how was Odalisque born ? And why have you chosen this name?
Odalisque was really born in 2007, when I and Vivian Shockley decided to put up a band. I met with Vivian some years before that and we became friends. Vivian had some other band going on at that moment, but he wasn’t happy about the way where that band was going, so he quit in that band. Then he came to me and we decided to start a new band and the name would be Odalisque.
We chose the name Odalisque for our band because of what it means. And I don’t want to tell you what it means, because you can find it out and then make your own conclusions from it.
Your debut album is called Fuck Parental Advisory. What are your songs about? And musically what genre, or band, inspires you?
Our songs from our debut album are basically about the dark side of the human mind. There’s lots of songs which are from real life situations, or maybe all of them are.
In our band Odalisque we all members have our own inspirations, but I can say that artists like Marilyn Manson, Iggy Pop, Black Sabbath, Ozzy and many more have been the inspiration for creation of this monster that we call Odalisque.
The band members have different nationalities: we know recently has been added the Italian Angelique Laurier-Rose, and also Quantum Prana has italian origins. Is there something different about the way to work and the approach to the music unlike Finnish way?
I have to say that no, not really. They both are great, just simply great in every way. But so are all the other members.
What are your plans for the future? Albums, concerts?
We have now some new songs and we will first make a demo from those. At some point we will go to the studio and make another album. We want to go and play in many different countries. We have some gigs booked already here in Finland, but we are trying to get some gigs for the summer, cause the gigs that we have already booked are in the end of this summer.
Do you have a website where we can find all your news?
We have now our website up and running, which is great! It’s Odalisque.
